Farm happenings
Hot diggity dog!! We got perfect rain last night, not to intense, not too long, not to heavy. The garden will be happy!! My mom also said something about lightning charging up the ground for the plants. There was plenty of that
Speaking of lightning, I stood by the door watching it for most of the storm. We have a huge sky here, with open air for sound. The lightning and thunder rendered me speechless, and I prayed fervently that I won't have to see the tribulation. Even trey, who is in his "I'm as tough and awesome as an adult" puberty phase, asked if we should go to the basement a couple times.
So on my chicken coop, I have two open windows with chicken wire. During storms, I have two boards that I put over the windows to prevent the rain from coming in. Up until yesterday, they worked. At the beginning of the storm they were picked up by the wind and thrown on the ground. And then I had to wait. Wait for the death lightening to move far enough away so I could go check on my darlings. And when Doug and I went out there to resecure their storm protection, the little things were barely wet! I don't know how they stayed out of the rain, but they did. Smart little buggers.
Yesterday, during the day, the power went out for a couple of hours- I need to either re-read Little House on The Prairie for survival tips or find the funds for a whole house generator. Wait, so anyways, the power was out and we took Theodore the pig for a walk. He's a sweet boy, but please don't think it's anything like walking a dog. It really is like walking a pig. I have to walk around with bread hidden in my hands because it's the only way I can get him to go where I want. But he had a taste of open spaces, and 10 minutes after putting him back in his pen , he used Bruce's old trick of pushing his way out. So we let him wander a little through the yard, and then put him back in.
The day is looking foggy and blah today. May be a good day to get some stuff done in the house.
