And then there were 9...
Farm happenings
We have had a chicken with a badly twisted leg, but it managed to get around ok and was thriving. When we got back from vacation yesterday it's leg was much worse, to the point it could barely get around anymore. So after a visit from the mclenehan crew today, it was decided that it was time to put him down. Jon being the most experienced of us all handled it for us as we watched. Doug paid close attention because he'll be the one doing it next. It was sad, but necessary and a part of farm life. .
The garden was atrocious after a week of no weeding and heavy rain. Today was spent weeding it with the kids, while they complained the whole time. Miserable for me, but a valuable lesson was learned for them. Real life isn't sitting around and having your food brought to you. Someone has to work their butt off to get that food to you.
Theodore is fattening up. He loves laying in the sun when it's cool out and is still enjoying his plantain treats and table scraps. Someday he'll have his little fenced in yard, but for now his walks will do.
Tori brought home a new kitten today from Diane's. He'll join the Calvary of barn cats outside once he's big enough, but for now he's in the house, because we didn't have enough animals already.
I'm hoping to go see Evangeline my jersey cow next weekend. Well I'm hoping she'll be my jersey cow, but we'll see what happens.
Two tornados came through grant park while we were out of town and thankfully our property was untouched. The church down the road and some houses further down weren't as lucky. The community here has really come together to help out where they can and I think it's fantastic.
That's all for now
