Farm happenings
Well we weren't able to get out to see Evangeline today because the flooding was so bad where she is. But after checking a few references on the farm she's coming from, were confident that it will be a good deal. So we told him that we would take her!! I'm hoping to have her munching on my yard and clover by August 1st. So now is the time to start preparing. We need to at least get supplies- some sort of movable water trough for her, some grain, feed storage containers, and a tethering rope and stake.
Chickens are loving their freedom. They still don't go too far from the coop but like taking over the front porch. This has resulted in chicken poop everywhere, which translates to more flies!!!! Not sure how to keep them off yet, but it's on the to do list
The mosquitos are killer!!! I've been getting eaten alive while working in the garden, even with bug spray on. So today after the rain I went out and picked some plantain leaves, chopped them up in the food processor and then infused them with coconut oil over low heat for a few hours. It's providing instant relief but not long term. I'll take the instant though.
Doug has started on some stuff around the house. The biggest thing right now is figuring out the water softener. Something has gone wrong because our water smells terribly like iron. Strrrrroooonggg iron. I suppose my anemia will be disappearing for the time being, but it's difficult to shower in.
More storms are coming through tonight. I'm kinda nervous that they'll be through while were sleeping. The weather forecast is calling for winds up to 60mph, but out here that could be around 80. It's a little nerve wracking to be sleeping on the second story of a 100 year old house while that action is going on outside. Not to mention, were in the land of tornado formation. So they can come without warning, as the two tornados did a couple weeks ago through here. Tori's friend is spending a couple days here so they're sprawled out in the living room. The rest of us will have to be upstairs resting in our prayers.
"If I close my eyes right now it sounds like I'm listening to a naturescapes cd- silent house, gentle rain, mellow thunder rumbles."
"I have at least 242 mosquito bites........just on my legs. The worst ones are behind my knees."
