Farm happenings
Today while taking Theodore out for his stroll I encountered my first run in with fire ants. Well I don't know if they were fire ants but my foot hurt and I looked down to see hundreds of them crawling up my foot and leg!! I then proceeded to let go of the pig leash, scream like a banchee and flail every appendage of my body. Through this flailing, my shorts came down, which was fortunate so I could make sure none of the ants got up too high. Today I was thankful we don't have neighbors nearby.
We're trying to train Theodore to come towards the sound of a shaking bag of chips. Why chips? Because we always have a ready supply of them, and the shaking bag also makes a loud enough noise that he could hear it from a ways off. Our goal is to let him run the yard while were out there, and if he starts to venture off too far, we can do a shake shake, and bring him back. I have no idea of this will work. But what I do know is he loves food, especially chips. And so far, the only way to get him to do anything is with food. So we'll give it a shot
We're going to see Evangeline on Saturday!!!! She's in fairbury at a dairy, about an hour away. I can't contain my excitement!!!!
The flies are back.
With a vengeance.
I feel like the brave little tailor who killed 5 flies with one swat. I haven't gotten five yet, but I can kill five individually in a 30 second period. In the house, they aren't as bad, but outside it's like something out of a horror movie at times. I've read that they don't like lavender , so I'm hoping to get some sprigs from Rachael Jones and lay them in the chicken coop. That seems to be where they are the worst.
We are officially a Safe Family now! We'll begin getting the needs alerts next week so please be in prayer for us.
"The kids played "Harley and seek" tonight. This game entails the kids running out to the corn and then calling Harley out to find them."
