Farm happenings
Strawberries are coming in like crazy! The kids have been picking them and eating them, I've been picking and eating them, people that come over have been picking them and eating them, Bruce has been picking them and eating them. I canned 2 pints of strawberry preserves yesterday and plan on freezing what I get for the next couple days. After that, with what is left, I'll can the rest.
Yes, you read in the above that Bruce has been picking and eating strawberries. He has destroyed the bottom of the chain link fence he is in and escaped tonight. It was both cute and entertaining watching Doug try to get him back in. But it was decided today that he's going to go to Settlers Pond in Beecher, an animal sanctuary. I haven't had luck getting materials for the pig pen and the plan I had will most definitely not work with the effectiveness of Bruce's escape tactics. So pigs may come again, someday....far into the future.
Ronald the rooster went out this morning and we haven't seen him. I'm hoping he comes flapping by the door in the next few hours, as he usually does.
Lloyd, my farmer friend down the street has the feed guy on a hunt for my jersey calf. Ohhhh I can't wait! We'll be getting a bottle fed calf and raise it up until she's ready to have a baby. This way, she will be gentler and more relaxed around us, and most definitely become part of the family.
The chicks got a temporary outdoor pen. Temporary means extremely small. But they LOVE being outside. I feel kinda bad making them go back in but the two barn cats are on a mission to murder my chicks
Speaking of barn cats, there are two. Both boys. Our indoor/ outdoor cat Kitty is just smitten with Tiger. She meows all day wanting to go out and then hunts him down. She then proceeds to follow him everywhere he goes. I need to explain to her the rules of courting. Let him come to you....silly cat
Signing off with my fresh strawberries from the garden and whipped cream. Can't wait for the days it's REAL whipped cream just milked
Doug found Ronald and caught him for a picture. You can see by the look on his face that he was slowly adjusting to farm life
